China Broadnet deploys 400g for all-optical transport capacity foundation

Recently, China Broadnet started the large-scale 400G deployment on its national backbone network.

For this deployment, the company uses Huawei's next-generation 400G OTN Kepler platform designed for the intelligent era and adopts the C6T+L6T all-optical switching (OXC) solution to build a high-quality all-optical transport network that delivers ultra-high bandwidth, ultra-low latency, and ultra-high reliability. In this way, China Broadnet achieves high-quality development of its services and lays a solid foundation for developing new productive forces.

Amid the latest wave of technological evolution and industry transformation, new productive forces are emerging, with data becoming a new production factor, computing power a new fundamental driving force, and all-optical transport network a vital information transmission channel. Against this backdrop, China Broadnet aligns with China's culture digitalization strategy and the east-to-west computing resource transfer project, focuses on collaborative development of "wired + wireless + satellite + international communication + content", and uses all-optical networks as the foundation. By doing so, the operator intends to build a manageable, controllable, highly secure, and highly reliable converged network that supports publicity, culture, media, and comprehensive information services. In recent years, with the ramp-up of emerging services such as Ultra-HD video, commercial 5G services, and high-quality transmission of enterprise services, bandwidth demand has exploded. To build a more robust network that meets green and low-carbon requirements, China Cable TV Network and Huawei jointly started the large-scale 400G deployment on China Broadnet's national backbone network, which features three innovative technologies:

  1. New 400G OTN platform: The industry-leading Kepler OTN platform is used to upgrade the site capacity. After the upgrade, high-speed backplane interconnection is supported, and the capacity of a single subrack reaches 100 Tbit/s. Such capacity can easily cope with the increased traffic of the intelligent era.
  1. High-performance 400G backbone system: Optical links are deployed using the latest high-performance 400G products that use the advanced oDSP algorithm and QPSK modulation format to implement long-haul transmission over more than 6000 km. Compared with the 100G OTN system, the 400G backbone network delivers four times the single-wavelength rate, four times the single-fiber capacity, and much lower per-bit transmission power consumption.

3. C+L integration technology: The C6T+L6T unified OXC system doubles the available spectrum and maximum system capacity while reducing the device footprint and power consumption, achieving Pbit/s-level traffic scheduling and high-bandwidth service scheduling required on future computing networks.

Looking ahead, China Broadnet will drive the development of all-optical networks and ramp up the large-scale 400G deployment on its national backbone network to build a solid all-optical transport foundation. At the same time, the operator will focus on collaborative development of TV, data, computing power, and 5G to accelerate the development of new productive forces. China Broadnet will work with all industries to build all-optical transport capacity so as to achieve win-win results in the intelligent era.
